Dr. Kessa Mauras
Dr. Mauras is a board-certified podiatric physician with a deep-seated passion for wound healing, amputation prevention and limb salvage. She believes in a collaborative approach to tackle the effects of diabetes and peripheral arterial disease as well as including whole foods for optimal health and wellness. She moved to Mississippi in 2021 as she wanted to use her education and training to serve an underserved community. Mississippi has the highest rates of diabetes and peripheral arterial disease in the country, but has very few specialists to address these issues. Dr. Mauras wanted to be part of the solution and joined a vascular practice where she acquired extensive knowledge on vascular testing and endovascular procedures. Her services were key to decreasing amputations in the region.
Dr. Mauras joined Wayne General Hospital in November 2023, where she helped create the first podiatry clinic in the hospital's history. She sees patients in clinic, co-directs the wound care clinic, performs surgery and hospital consults, is chairperson of the quality committee and is a member of the medical executive staff.
Given the sheer amount of diabetes and PAD in Mississippi, non-invasive vascular studies are performed in the clinic, and arterial dopplers and CTAs are performed at the hospital. Dr. Mauras also has a working relationship with regional cardiovascular practices that she regularly refers to for cardiovascular optimization, angiograms and endovascular surgical care.
Prior to her work in Mississippi, Dr. Mauras was in private practice in rural Oregon for nine years. She attended the California School of Podiatric Medicine, completed her clinical year at Madigan Army Medical Center in Fort Lewis, WA and the VA in Tacoma, WA where she provided care to soldiers, veterans and their families. Her residency training at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in New York along with its affiliated hospitals and surgical centers, encompassed surgical training, trauma response, wound care, research and team leadership.
Dr. Mauras is also a native Spanish speaker, who loves plants, gardening, the arts, and travelling with her spouse and dog.

Dr. Shelley Brand
Dr. Brand is a board-certified podiatric physician with a strong clinical background and a heart for service. She is passionate about providing comprehensive foot and ankle care, with a special focus on surgical intervention, wound care, and peripheral nerve surgery.
Originally from Tennessee, Dr. Brand earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she also served as captain of the rowing team. While in college, she worked in a sleep clinic, where she first developed her patient care skills. After graduation, she spent time shadowing physicians and working as a medical scribe, which led to her discovery of podiatric medicine. She went on to earn her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine.
Dr. Brand completed her Podiatric Surgical Residency (PMSR/RRA) at Kingwood Medical Center in Texas, where she served as Chief Resident from 2017 to 2018. During her training, she participated in two international medical mission trips—first to Guayaquil, Ecuador with the Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons, and later to San Miguel, Mexico with the Texas Podiatric Medical Foundation—further deepening her commitment to global medical outreach.
Since completing residency, Dr. Brand has cared for patients across a variety of clinical settings, including the Pike County Clinic, the Atlanta VA, and Village Podiatry of Hixson. She is board certified by both the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM) and the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS). In addition, she holds advanced certifications in ACLS, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Peripheral Nerve Surgery, and Foot & Ankle Arthroscopy.
Dr. Brand is actively involved in academic research and has worked on projects exploring nerve decompression in leprosy patients, the impact of vitamin D levels on surgical outcomes, and the presence of Lyme disease in the foot and ankle. She has received multiple awards recognizing her leadership and academic excellence from various podiatric organizations.
She is a member of the Tennessee Podiatric Medical Association, the American Podiatric Medical Association, the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and the Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons.
Dr. Brand joined Wayne General Hospital in 2025 and is excited to contribute to the growing podiatric program alongside Dr. Mauras. She sees patients in the clinic, performs surgeries and hospital consults, and brings extensive knowledge in both conservative and surgical treatment plans.
